Overview


M.Sc. Nursing in Medical-Surgical Nursing is a Postgraduate Program in Nursing that focuses on the advanced study and practice of Nursing Care for Patients with Medical and Surgical conditions. The program aims to develop the skills and knowledge of Nurses to provide Evidence-Based Nursing care for patients with acute and chronic Medical and Surgical conditions.

The course curriculum includes a range of theoretical and practical subjects, including Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Nursing Management of Medical and Surgical conditions, Nursing Research, and Statistics. The program also includes clinical placements in Medical and Surgical settings, where students can apply their theoretical knowledge and develop their practical skills.

Upon completion of the program, graduates can work as Nurse educators, Researchers, or Practitioners in various Healthcare settings, including Hospitals. They can also pursue further studies at the Doctoral level to specialize in a particular area of Nursing practice.

Program Objectives:

 

  1. Learn the physical setup of the medical ICU.
  2. Gain knowledge and skills in the use of equipment such as ventilators, pulse oxymeters, diginfusers, defibrillators, cardiac monitors, suction apparatus, and other intensive care equipments used in the ICU.
  3. Gain skills in the insertion of various catheters such as Foley catheters, nasogastric tubes, IV cannulas, etc.
  4. Provide individualized holistic care to the patient assigned to them using the nursing process.
  5. Gain skills in assisting during emergency and diagnostic or therapeutic procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and intubations.
  6. Learn all the specific protocols followed in case of hepatic encephalopathy, poisoning, stroke, myocardial infarction, chronic renal failure, COPD, status asthmatics, etc.
  7. Complete expected requirements such as care plans, case studies, and other procedures and present one patient for clinical presentation.
  8. Learn and administer medications and IV fluids as per doctors’ orders.
  9. Maintain Kardex and nurses' notes for each patient and provide specific and relevant health education to each patient.
  10. Provide complete physical, spiritual, and emotional, and promote the health status of the patient and the family members.

Eligibility Criteria


There is a minimum eligibility criterion for the candidates who apply for the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, Lucknow (ABVMU)B.Sc Nursing Entrance Exam is as such :

 

  1. The candidate should have undergone B.Sc Nursing/ B.Sc Hons. Nursing/Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing form an Institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
  2. The Candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered midwife or equivalent with any State Nursing Registration Council.
  3. The candidate should have passed the B.Sc Nursing/ B.Sc Hons. Nursing/Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing with minimum 55% aggregate marks for Unreserved (UR) & OBC candidates and minimum 50% aggregate marks.
  4. Minimum one year of work experience after Basic B.Sc Nursing/ B.Sc Hons. Nursing course.
